Designing the Header

cropped-cropped-sunset.jpgDesigning the header has by far been quite a challenge throughout the process of creating this blog. I struggled poorly with figuring out how to use the website “Pixlr.” I have never used Photoshop before so I’m not familiar to using editing sites such as this one. It was hard to search what pictures would match the theme of my blog because there weren’t many choices that were a certain size or had a certain license agreement. I even utilized the youtube video tutorial as a resource and though it helped me catch on a little, I still found myself getting frustrated with the site. The only thing that came naturally was finding the website itself and saving the pictures to my laptop. I think I struggled using the website for at least two hours until I just magically clicked a few buttons that did what I wanted them to do and eventually, my masterpiece was created.

I feel like the skills needed to use Pixlr are definitely patience, time-management, an open-mind and logic. I think I can apply these newfound skills to my everyday life in any situation that occurs on a daily basis. For example, logic and patience is always needed in any situation that arises. There could be a conflict between two people that a person has to mediate and in order to mediate that conflict; a person would need to have an open-mindset while approaching it. Time-management and logic is needed everywhere in any aspect of life. I had to manage my time well when choosing how I wanted my banner to look. I didn’t want to spend too much time on one thing when I know that I had to worry about tackling other parts of my assignment. Logic is just a thing everyone should use going into any project. Even though the answer won’t always be there, there is always a solution to everything.

10/8/16 Update *** I have decided to switch back to my original idea of my header since I was not happy with the one I had previously. I wanted to stick within the tropical theme of my blog and found it hard to put that idea together when searching for pictures to suit that theme.

    Hi Melissa,

I think you did a great job on designing your header, given the fact that you had little experience with photo editing! You bring up a good point about finding pictures to use. I think it is much easier to find and edit photos , when there are more to choose from. However, I think I good designer could most likely make anything good, with the right amount of patience.

I think you did a good job of designing your header and I like how you said some of the skills you obtained from using Pixlr was logic, patience, etc. I hadn’t thought of that when thinking of how to apply Pixlr to real life, but it definitely applies, as it wasn’t exactly a walk in the park using it. Once again nice header!

    Hi Melissa,

I think your header is perfect for your blog! It is an accurate description of what your blog is about and is also very colorful and will lure in your audience. Design wise, your header is great!
I think one thing you could maybe work on is getting a picture with better resolution because it seems a little blurry! But other than that it’s awesome!
Nice work, I can’t wait to see your work in the future!
