Designing the Header

cropped-cropped-sunset.jpgDesigning the header has by far been quite a challenge throughout the process of creating this blog. I struggled poorly with figuring out how to use the website “Pixlr.” I have never used Photoshop before so I’m not familiar to using editing sites such as this one. It was hard to search what pictures would match the theme of my blog because there weren’t many choices that were a certain size or had a certain license agreement. I even utilized the youtube video tutorial as a resource and though it helped me catch on a little, I still found myself getting frustrated with the site. The only thing that came naturally was finding the website itself and saving the pictures to my laptop. I think I struggled using the website for at least two hours until I just magically clicked a few buttons that did what I wanted them to do and eventually, my masterpiece was created.

I feel like the skills needed to use Pixlr are definitely patience, time-management, an open-mind and logic. I think I can apply these newfound skills to my everyday life in any situation that occurs on a daily basis. For example, logic and patience is always needed in any situation that arises. There could be a conflict between two people that a person has to mediate and in order to mediate that conflict; a person would need to have an open-mindset while approaching it. Time-management and logic is needed everywhere in any aspect of life. I had to manage my time well when choosing how I wanted my banner to look. I didn’t want to spend too much time on one thing when I know that I had to worry about tackling other parts of my assignment. Logic is just a thing everyone should use going into any project. Even though the answer won’t always be there, there is always a solution to everything.

10/8/16 Update *** I have decided to switch back to my original idea of my header since I was not happy with the one I had previously. I wanted to stick within the tropical theme of my blog and found it hard to put that idea together when searching for pictures to suit that theme.

My experience setting up this blog

Setting up this blog was quite a familiar experience for me. I’m familiar with creating blogs because of taking journalism courses at my previous schools and having a passion for journalism on the side. It took me awhile to figure out how to navigate with this particular theme. For example, figuring out how to add a new link to my home tab and choosing the colors and pictures that would suit the theme of my blog was somewhat a struggle but I eventually got the hang of figuring things out. I’m still trying the perfect my blog but I am getting somewhere with it. My blog is not one-hundred percent where I want it to be, but I like how much progress I’ve made so far during the process of creating it. The above pictures are from Google. I consider those pictures to be a little “cliffhanger” as to what my blog will be about which you may have probably guessed just from the website domain. Stay tuned 🙂
